Epic (check this out) – study of dramatic change for individuals and society, compare with human timeline, compare generations – two previous and the next, a few things about change (1) hard to see from within (2) social changes appear accelerating (3) inevitable but we can see patterns, try to make predictions

Themes from Epic that will reappear through the semester

1) Growth toward monopoly, accelerating change with unforeseen consequences, winners and losers

2) power of multinational corporations, global governing bodies, absence of regulations that account for other interests

3) one stop shopping – supermarket mentality
